Pinnacle Bank Championship Looking for Volunteers

The Korn Ferry Tour’s Pinnacle Bank Championship is looking for volunteers in the Omaha area for the 7th annual event. 

The Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna is seeking volunteers for this summer’s Omaha Korn Ferry Tour stop. The Pinnacle Bank Championship will be held from August 7 to 13, 2023 at The Club at Indian Creek in Omaha, Neb. 

It’s an experience past volunteers say is unlike any other. 

“You get to walk with a guy in the first round and it’s up to five under par and he’s leading the tournament, or you get to walk with a guy on the second day that shoots seven and eventually he wins the tournament, seeing history, so to speak, happen right there in front of you,” said longtime volunteer Tom Laughlin. 

The Pinnacle Bank Championship offers a wide array of volunteering opportunities ranging from marshals, admissions, volunteer headquarters, standard bearer, product distribution and much more.  This is a perfect opportunity for avid golf fans and those who have aspirations to get closer to the game. If that sounds like you, we encourage you to join the marshal committee. Marshals assist with the pace of play, crosswalks, quieting the crowd and much more. 

Those interested in volunteering are asked to sign up through the Pinnacle Bank Championship website.  

Volunteers say one of the best parts of the Pinnacle Bank Championship is the opportunity to give back to the Omaha metro community. 

“It’s just a way of giving back. They use different charities and so you know, one place it’ll be for kids and when you see some of them at the tournament you get to see what kind of effect it has, it’s great,” said Laughlin. 

The Pinnacle Bank Championship encourages working with friends or family and will make every effort to accommodate your scheduling requests. With many different members of the greater Omaha community involved in the Pinnacle Bank Championship, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet many like-minded people. It’s a great opportunity for a wide range of ages.  

“Just go with what you’re interested in, you know, at least the first couple years kind of go with what will get you out there and you can see the players and stuff like that, but we’ve always told people we can train anybody from 16 or 17 years old, up to their 60s and 70s. It’s a great way to get out in the sunshine,” said Laughlin.

Pinnacle Bank Championship Announces Live & Loud Two-Night Concert Series

Country music stars Kip Moore and Chris Janson will take stage during Pinnacle Bank Championship 

The Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna is proud to announce an encore concert series during this year’s event. It will feature an all-star lineup of country music stars. The tournament returns to Omaha for its seventh year on August 7 – 13, 2023. 

The Live & Loud concert series, in partnership with Barnato, will take place on the nights of Friday, August 11, and Saturday, August 12 at conclusion of tournament play at The Club at Indian Creek. The Pinnacle Bank Championship’s Korn Ferry Tour stop features a purse of $1,000,000.  

“The Pinnacle Bank Championship is elated to ramp up our entertainment offerings this year. The success of last year’s Live & Loud concert series will continue with more big names in country music. The shows will keep the fun rolling after fun-filled days of watching top-tier golfers vie for their PGA TOUR cards,” said Jessica Brabec, tournament director.

Shelton Wins 2022 Pinnacle Bank Championship

Robby Shelton carded a 6-under 65 and held off Ben Taylor, one of three 54-hole co-leaders, as he won the Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna for his second victory of the season and fourth of his career. While Shelton quietly moved atop the leaderboard with a pair of back-nine birdies, much of Sunday’s drama centered around the final three PGA TOUR cards awarded to the top 25 players on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Eligibility Points List (i.e. – The 25).

“It feels awesome to finally put a Sunday round together,” Shelton said. “It means so much. I’ve slept with the lead a couple times and almost let it slip. Coming from behind is kind of where I like to be. Just an incredible start, and hung on, putted well all week. Just a solid, solid week of golf.”

Shelton began the final round at The Club at Indian Creek two strokes off the lead and caught Taylor and one of his fellow 54-hole co-leaders, Taylor Montgomery, by the turn. An eagle at the par-5 fourth and three consecutive birdies at Nos. 6-8, moving Shelton into a tie with Montgomery at 16-under par, and one stroke ahead of Taylor.

Shelton negated a bogey at the par-4 10th with a birdie at the par-4 12th, then took the outright lead with a birdie at the par-5 15th.

One group ahead, Kevin Dougherty, who could only move inside The 25 and earn a PGA TOUR card with a victory, also reached 16-under par with three consecutive birdies at Nos. 13-15. A bogey at the par-4 16th dropped Dougherty two strokes behind Shelton, knocking him off the TOUR card bubble altogether. Playing in the final group, Taylor also birdied the par-5 15th and had playoff-forcing birdie looks on the final three holes but came up empty each time.

While Shelton finished the week with only 42 greens in regulation, nearly the worst in the field among the 65 players who made the cut, the University of Alabama alum only hit 99 putts, with just 22 of them coming in Sunday’s final round. Shelton, who plays from Wilmer, Alabama, was just the second player this season with fewer than 100 putts across 72 holes. The other player to accomplish the feat was Norman Xiong, who set a Korn Ferry Tour record with just 94 putts in his victory at the Wichita Open Benefitting KU Wichita Pediatrics.

“It saved me,” Shelton said of his putter. “The greens were perfect, and I had a lot of long putts made, and I made every putt that I needed to.”

Shelton had already secured a PGA TOUR card prior to this week, a product of his victory at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX two months ago. Following the victory earlier this season, his first since a pair of wins in 2019, Shelton talked in depth about how a swing change sent him down a rabbit hole he only re-emerged from earlier this year. The tinkering came after Shelton made the second leg of the FedExCup Playoffs as a rookie in 2020. Last season on TOUR, Shelton finished No. 167 in the FedExCup Standings, relegating him to the Korn Ferry Tour.

Now Shelton enters the three-event Korn Ferry Tour Finals with a chance at the No. 1 ranking, which comes with fully exempt status next season on TOUR and berths in the 2023 PLAYERS Championship and U.S. Open.

“I think then I was just young and playing some good golf, but now I can put it together four days in a row for a string of tournaments, which is huge for me,” Shelton said. “I’ve been a little inconsistent the past few years, and just to be able to do this day in and day out, it means a lot.”

Sunday’s main drama involved a handful of players attempting to either stay inside The 25, or play their way into it and knock out a fellow competitor.

Kevin Roy bounced back from a 2-over 73 in the third round with a 3-under 68 in the final round, holding on to the No. 24 spot on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Eligibility Points List despite a three-putt bogey from off the back of the 18th green.

Vincent Norrman erased a double bogey at the par-3 fifth with birdies at Nos. 4, 6, and 7. An even-par 35 back nine left him in the clubhouse awaiting his fate. Norrman eventually finished No. 23, one point ahead of Roy and two points clear of Anders Albertson, who held on for the final spot in The 25 despite a missed cut earlier this week.

Brandon Harkins made a furious rally after back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 10 and 11 and a double bogey at the par-3 13th left him 2-over par for the day. Harkins needed a strong finish for any chance at a return to the PGA TOUR. A birdie at the par-4 14th and eagle at the par-5 15th gave him a puncher’s chance, but three consecutive pars to finish, with No. 18 being of the up-and-down variety, left him at No. 26, nine points behind Albertson.

T.J. Vogel and Will Gordon, both in need of high finishes to knock out Albertson, made charges up the leaderboard throughout their rounds but were seemingly always one stroke out of the position they needed.

Gordon, Harkins, and Vogel, along with the rest of the group who finished Nos. 26-75 on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Eligibility Points List, have another chance at PGA TOUR cards in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, which begin Thursday at the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Chevron.

The 50 Korn Ferry Tour players who were unable to earn PGA TOUR cards via the regular season will compete against players who finished Nos. 126-200 in the 2021-22 FedExCup Standings, along with players who earned enough non-member FedExCup points to finish between Nos. 126-200. There are once again 25 TOUR cards available via the Finals. The 25 TOUR-bound members from the regular season will keep their points and compete against one another for positioning within the priority ranking, which determines entry to PGA TOUR events.

 The Live & Loud concert series, promoted by Barnato, will take place over three nights during the golf championship at The Club at Indian Creek. The Pinnacle Bank Championship, which features a purse of $850,000, is the final regular season stop where the Korn Ferry Tour’s top 25 players receive their PGA TOUR cards for the 2022-2023 season.

Pinnacle Bank Championship Donates More Than $100,000 Toward Charitable Organizations

The Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna announced the tournament will present Children’s Hospital & Medical Center with a check for $50,000 on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. Through the five years of the Championship, the event and its partner agencies have given more than $450,000 to area charities.

“Children’s is grateful to be chosen as the charity beneficiary of this year’s Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna. Thanks to the tournament’s continued partnership, Children’s can continue serving the region’s families, providing the best in pediatric care,” said Chanda Chacón, President & CEO, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center. “We are thankful for the donation and for the tournament helping to shine the national spotlight on Children’s mission.”

“After five years, the tournament has solidified itself as a premier supporter of the Omaha area,” said Jeff Jorth, board chairman of Support Nebraska. “We are proud to help lead the charge, channeling the success of the event back into the community through multiple donations to area charities.”

In addition to Children’s, $54,000 was awarded to seven other local charities; First Tee of Omaha, EPIC, JDRF, Memories for Kids, Team Jack Foundation and the PGA HOPE Program.

The 25 Secure PGA TOUR Cards

(via the Korn Ferry Tour) OMAHA, Neb. – The first 25 of 50 available PGA TOUR membership cards for the 2021-22 season were secured on Sunday upon the conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour’s final Regular Season event, the Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna, contested at The Club at Indian Creek.

David Skinns Wins His Second Pinnacle Bank Championship

(via the Korn Ferry Tour) OMAHA, Neb. – Annually one of the most pressure-packed days in golf, the final round of the regular-season ending Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna didn’t disappoint. Englishman David Skinns earned a one-stroke victory, leaping from 46th in the Korn Ferry Tour points standings to 22nd to reach the PGA TOUR. Skinns, who won the same tournament in 2018, joins 24 other graduates on Sunday evening in securing 2021-22 PGA TOUR membership.

Skinns was one of two players to move into The 25 this week, joining Austin Smotherman, who moved from 26th to 25th to receive the last PGA TOUR card.

“It’s taken a lot of years, it’s taken a lot of effort and I knew I had to win, and I knew I could win,” said an emotional Skinns after the round. “The fact that it’s happened, it’s a little surreal right now. I’m just really proud of the way I stayed with it, one shot by one shot, didn’t get ahead of myself. Every time I went into the future, I just pulled myself right back again, and that’s the thing I’m most proud of.”

Skinns, a 39-year-old University of Tennessee alum, bogeyed the par-5 15th to fall back into a three-way tie for first. Then, he immediately rebounded with a birdie at the 16th to take a one-stroke lead. At the 18th, Skinns pulled his drive into the rough on the wrong side of the cart path but was able to advance the ball near the green before getting up and down for the win.
